Sunway International School (SIS) is the only school in Malaysia offering the Ontario (Canada) program from Grade 7-11. Since the opening of SIS in January, 2008, more and more students and parents are becoming interested in this student-centred, performance-driven program where students are taught knowledge and understanding, not just to write exams, but to take this knowledge to apply it, to create with it, and to communicate it. It is a different way of learning and our students are enjoying and benefiting from our program.
The student population at Sunway International School (SIS) has grown greatly over the years since its inception. The numbers have increased particularly with the introduction of our Grade 7 & 8 programs. The Grade 7 & 8 program is the foundation for the future of SIS. There is a strong emphasis on Language Arts and Mathematics in our Grade 7 & 8 program along with a decided stress on Reading. We believe that Reading and Literacy are the main ingredients in shaping the future academic pursuits of our students; and the stronger the base that we can build for them at this time will result in greater success in secondary school and beyond.
Our secondary program (Grades 9-11) has also grown steadily and as our Grade 7 and 8 students progress, these numbers will also increase appreciably each year. We anticipate that the new SIS building, which we hope to occupy in July, 2012, will be bursting at the seams in a few short years.
At SIS, we attempt to offer as wide a range of extracurricular activities as possible. Our teachers assist our students in clubs and activities such as Futsal, Basketball, Floorball, dance, choir, etc. In addition, there is a very strong Student Council that works very hard to provide functions for the students such as the Prom.
At SIS we are extremely proud of our staff. As stated above, SIS is the only school in Malaysia offering the Ontario (Canada) program from Grade 7-11. Along with the Ontario curriculum, the majority of our teachers are Ontario-certificated. This means, that in addition to their subject expertise, they all have additional qualifications in teaching. As a Principal, it is gratifying to know that our teachers are qualified, dedicated and hard working. As parents, you should be confident that your children are in good hands with our excellent teaching faculty that is extremely committed to your students.
I believe that every Principal has the same message to all parents when he/she asks for parental support. In order for a school to function well, all the constituent parts must work as a team – parents, teachers, students and administrators. To this end, we will encourage and welcome all our parents to participate with us; to join our staff-parent committees; to contact us as needed; and to be there for us.
We have diligent Office Staff which is the first line of communication and they serve us very well. If you wish to know more about SIS or need assistance, please call the office and if someone there cannot help, you will be directed to someone who can.
Along with our Office Staff, our Deputy Principal, Ms. Annie Lim and our Academic Coordinator, Mr. Manny Avila, we are here to provide any assistance to all – students, teachers and parents.
